Their financial struggles led to them being kicked out of their old house, so they moved in with Joy’s aunt. After her aunt’s recent death, Joy’s mother now cares for Joy and her two cousins.

She also enjoys playing skipping rope with her best friend and other friends in the neighborhood, which keeps her physically fit and active. When she gets a chance to attend school, she excels in mathematics and Kiswahili, considering herself intelligent and finding no challenge in scoring good grades in these subjects.
